LEARN - SHARE - GROW

Want to Feed your Garden Naturally?? Nature has an answer.

Worm-Tower1.1.png

Worm Towers provide worms with direct access to food scraps that would have normally gone into the garbage. This reduces waste and increases garden productivity and overall health.

When worms come to feast at your worm tower they not only leave behind there precious castings that will feed and benefit your garden, but also they aerate the soils for you and attract more diverse bacteria for your plants root systems.

DIY WORM TOWER

Supplies Needed:

4" or larger PVC Pipe.

Drill with at least a 1/2" bit

Terracotta pot, or PVC pipe cap or other

Shovel to dig hole

STEP1.1.png

STEP 1)

Standard pipe is 10 ft so measure 2.5ft and cut 4 pieces of equal length if you want to make 4 or just cut 2.5 foot of one side if you only want 1.

STEP 2)

Drill Holes all over the pipe but leave about 4 inches on the top with no holes. (This will be the part that sticks up out of the ground)

STEP 3)

Dig Hole and place pipe with holes down into the ground and backfill around the pipe so that it's firm.

STEP3.1.png

STEP 3)

Place Terracotta pot on top to prevent rodents and other animals. (Place food scraps at base of the hole to attract worms from the surrounding area, or add the worms directly to the pipe by either scouring for them on the ground or purchasing some quality worms for your garden to jump start it.)

Remember you can space these apart to help provide more even distribution of castings and to provide a more stable quality soil base.

VARIATIONS AND TIPS

This same idea can apply to any size container. The bigger the container the more worm castings can be generated. Anything from a 5 gallon bucket all the way to a trash can, can be used to help your garden.

**Alternately if you don't' want to use plastic this same idea can be accomplished with wood just be aware it will biodegrade after a while.**
