DIY COMPOST BIN

LEARN - SHARE - GROW

There are several designs you can use for your perpetual Compost Bin.  In the picture below you can utilize "Hardware Cloth" which is just small scale fencing like picture below.

The simplicity of this design and it's cost effective nature makes for a huge compost area with very little upfront cost!!! ( Recommend Metal posts for longevity)

*Drawbacks - Harder to flip but you can use the pipe method to keep it well aerated and not too anaerobic as the microbes like the Oxygen.

GEOBIN ($35)

The Geobin is only $35 and is very similar to the first bin I posted!!! This is cost effective and fairly easy to setup.

**Drawbacks - People mentioned it being hard to setup cause it doesn't keep it shape until it's been used once. More expensive than some options, no lid to control moisture

Pallets or wood slats can be used to make a square compost bin and use the PVC pipes with holes drilled for aeration of the pile. Twine, or rope can be used to tie the corners for ease of use. The pile doesn't need to be turned as much due to the PVC aeration pipes!!!

Trash Can Compost Bin Works great!!! They are simple to make and are cost effective!!! - Simply get a trash can!! Add 3" perforated pipe to the center of the can. Drill 1/4" holes all over the garbage can, lid and bottom!!! - With this design you can control moisture via the breather holes on the outside of the garbage can and the aeration hole in the middle!!! To allow further control with this design you have a lid that you can use to prevent rain and also you can drill in PVC pipe as well for further aeration as mentioned in the previous idea!!!

These are just a few base ideas to build off of but this should give anyone enough info to decide on the type of composter, and the method that would work best for your situation!!!
